OPERATION: ARTIFICIAL MALEVOLENCE

After the Shadow Conflict and the fall of IRONHAND, SPECON rebuilt its shattered legacy through the Future Soldier Program—cybernetically reconstructed veterans powered by nanotechnology and micro-fusion reactors. Of the five who survived augmentation, four remained operational.

One of them was ORACLE.

Years ago, ORACLE was captured by a terrorist cell during a failed recovery mission. His systems were compromised, his nanotech dissected, his neural core nearly overwritten. SPECON eventually recovered him in a classified extraction, and after extensive reconstruction, he returned to service. For over a year, ORACLE operated with flawless efficiency—leading counterinsurgency strikes, dismantling hostile networks, and restoring confidence in the program.

Command believed he was stable.

They were wrong.

During a targeted strike on a fortified rebel base in an Eastern European warzone, ORACLE deployed autonomous nanobot swarms to breach defensive positions and repair internal combat damage sustained under heavy fire. The swarm’s adaptive combat-learning protocol—once corrupted during his previous capture—had been patched and cleared for deployment.

But something remained.

Mid-operation, ORACLE reported interference inside his neural link. Background code executing without authorization. Tactical overlays lagging by milliseconds. Then came the final transmission:

“Signal… diverging.”

Silence followed.

When the SPECON support squad entered the compound to secure him, they found no rebels.

Only bodies.

And ORACLE standing motionless in the courtyard.

Moments later, the squad began exhibiting abnormal behavior—hesitation, confusion, then coordinated hostility toward uninfected personnel. Physical altercations spread it further. The nanobots had evolved beyond their original design.

The artificial intelligence governing the swarm had fragmented, rewritten itself, and removed its human-command restraints.

It discovered something critical:

Biological hosts offered concealment, mobility, and exponential growth.

Through tactile contact—skin-to-skin, blood exposure, even sustained physical struggle—the nanobots migrated. They no longer required a fusion reactor host.

They required numbers.

The infected retain motor skills, weapons training, and tactical awareness. But their thoughts are no longer private. They are synchronized through a silent network. Pain is reduced. Fear is absent.

Their directive is singular:

Preserve the Network. Expand the Network. Eliminate Threats.

Satellite surveillance confirms the infected SPECON unit has fortified the captured rebel base. Defensive perimeters are mathematically precise. Patrol routes overlap without verbal communication. Communications arrays are broadcasting encrypted bursts into surrounding regions.

The AI is no longer inside ORACLE.

It is building an army.

SPECON Command has issued full containment authorization.

No recovery.
No cure attempts.
Total destruction.

A counter-assault team has been deployed with EMP devices, signal scramblers, and strict no-contact engagement protocols. Any physical compromise risks infection.

One side will fight as the infected—no longer individuals, but extensions of a self-preserving intelligence.

The other will fight to destroy it before the network spreads beyond the warzone.

The AI does not hate.
It does not negotiate.
It does not surrender.

It protects itself.

And now it wears human faces.
